First things first, I will be locking down and charging the pledge manager orders on July 23rd. So on July 23rd, all orders will be locked, payment methods on file will be charged, and you will not be able to make any further changes yourselves, such as address changes or adding items. The pre-order phase for these books will effectively be closed. Please use this time to review your information, or complete it if you haven't done so. 39 people still need to complete the survey!
Don't panic though, if you need an address change after we lock down orders, you can do so by contacting me directly. The books will still be in transit for quite a while, so if you're moving, I will work with you to make sure they get where they need to go.
Next up, shipping costs. As I mentioned way back when I first opened the pledge manager, due to the messy state of shipping around the globe right now, costs at every step of the way have been in a constant state of flux, and so we might end up in a situation where my estimates did not accurately reflect actual costs. After going over the numbers then vs now, that appears to be the case.
Most of my estimates fall within the margins of error we planned for, however as Europeans are most likely aware, the EU/UK have made recent changes to the VAT rules, and now certain costs our importer used to be able to subsidize have become illegal to do so. That means our quotes have changed since a few months ago.
For a single book, the price of the VAT increase is negligible, but for orders for 3+ books (ie, most of our orders), this has amounted to an increase of $1 more than our estimate in the UK, and $2 more than our estimate for all EU regions. It's not a huge difference, but it does add up some across all of the orders we have for those regions.
I've been giving this a lot of thought for the past 48 hours, and I have decided, ultimately, that I will not increase the shipping prices on my end. I quoted you a shipping price when I opened the pledge manager, and I will stand by that.
However, the Backerkit Pledge Manager does have a tip jar feature, and so if you are in the UK/EU, ordered 3+ books, and want to chip in the extra $1/$2 for the additional VAT cost, you can certainly do so that way. You'll get no argument from me.
I have one final round of pictures of these books. The next time you see them, you'll be holding them. The books are done, and packed up awaiting our shipping arrangements to get them moving!
